Sales of new passenger cars fell after the increase in VAT and the scrappage tax. The second working week of the new year gives a worrying signal: sales decreased by 19% to 18,200 units compared to the previous week, and by 11% year-on-year, said the CEO of the analytical agency “AUTOSTAT”, Sergey Tselikov.
“We can only hope that the weather – snowfalls and cold – had an impact. We really don’t want to believe in the beginning of another ‘global cooling of demand’. Many in the auto business remember the first half of 2025 with shudder,” commented Tselikov on the results (The Moscow Times).
