The Government has decided to allocate another UAH 7.9 billion for the purchase of drones. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a meeting of the Cabinet on February 21.
According to him, these funds will be redirected to the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, which will make the necessary purchases.
“We are directing every hryvnia of taxpayers’ money from the state budget to the defence and security of our country,” said Denys Shmyhal.
He emphasised that the Government paid special attention to the production of Ukraine’s own weapons and strengthening the economy.
“Domestic production in the drone segment is almost 100%. In January, drone production increased 10-fold compared to January 2024. In 2023 and 2024, our own production of artillery tripled, armoured personnel carriers increased 5-fold, anti-tank weapons 2-fold and ammunition increased 2.5-fold,” the Prime Minister said.
According to him, Ukraine produces about a third of the weapons the country needs.
“The task set by the Government is to bring our own arms production to at least half of the current demand. In order to achieve this goal, we have allocated a record amount of money this year for the modernisation of our own defence industry and the purchase of weapons,” said Denys Shmyhal.
