Deputy Ministers of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Hrynchuk and Roman Andarak held a working meeting with a delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Roman Andarak told the American partners that since the beginning of the russian invasion in 2022, the enemy had systematically attacked Ukraine’s thermal, hydroelectric, gas and solar power generation.
“The situation is consistently difficult, but the unprecedented repair campaign is in full swing. However, the protection of power facilities is crucial for the effective restoration of capacities,” Roman Andarak stressed.
Svitlana Hrynchuk emphasised that the issue of protecting energy infrastructure facilities was one of the most important to maintain the country’s energy security in general. Otherwise, what is repaired can be destroyed again at any time.
In addition, the Energy Ministry officials informed the American delegation about the need for additional distributed generation capacity and backup power sources for critical infrastructure facilities. According to Deputy Energy Ministers, a lot of work has already been done in these two strategic areas, but due to Ukraine’s large size, everything must be done to ensure that people have water and heat in winter even in the regions most affected by shelling.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the problems of developing renewable energy, in particular solar and wind power generation.
“It is very important for us to strengthen the energy system with renewable energy sources. To accelerate the process, we have introduced soft loans for solar panels and inverters for households and businesses,” said Svitlana Hrynchuk.
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives delegation praised the Ukrainian Government’s efforts to prepare for the heating season and assured that they would continue to deepen cooperation with the Ministry of Energy in supporting Ukraine’s energy independence. (Government portal)
