Ukraine and its partners are constantly looking for solutions to accelerate the restoration of the Ukrainian energy sector and attract more support from the private sector. In particular, the possibilities of grant and investment programmes for energy recovery were discussed during a video meeting of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine with the leadership of the Korean government agency KIND (Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation), which was already supporting a number of recovery projects in Ukraine.
“The issues of energy recovery and support for the private sector are at the centre of the Ukrainian Government’s attention. Together with our partners, we are constantly looking for new opportunities to restore the damaged facilities as quickly as possible. Private investment is important in this context. We estimate Ukraine’s investment potential in the energy sector at around $168 billion over the next 10 years. We proposed to the Korean government agency KIND to consider expanding its support for projects in Ukraine to include energy recovery projects and energy independence for municipalities. In particular, by financing the development of distributed power generation. We are aware of the interest of Korean businesses in such projects,” said Deputy Minister of Economy Volodymyr Kuzio.
According to the Deputy Minister, the parties also discussed KIND’s participation in projects in Ukraine. In particular, the institution is working on a transport master plan for Kyiv region, a smart city master plan for Uman, and a plan for the reconstruction/rehabilitation of Ukrainian airports. Other projects include technical assistance in the reconstruction of the Kakhovka Dam, a railway renovation project, including the launch of a high-speed Kyiv-Poland connection, a wastewater treatment project in Bucha and other projects involving cities and municipalities.
