The European Union in the last years has backed 18 settlements of Moldova with over 36.5 million euros, thus significantly contributing to the improvement of the citizens’ living standards. Within the project “Construction of the infrastructure of water and sewerage supply, as well as of energy efficiency in public buildings” EU invested considerable resources, in order to ensure the access to drinking water, modern services of sewerage and quality educational infrastructure.
“Soldanesti, Balti, Sangerei, Ungheni, Straseni, Dubasari, Leova and Basarabeasca are the regions where education institutions were renovated. Due to EU’s support, over 5,000 pupils and employees of eight schools enjoy better conditions. About 15 million euros was invested in repair works. On this period, roofs were repaired, walls of buildings were thermally insulated, windows were replaced, heating and ventilation systems were changed and toilettes were renovated. The overall area renovated at those eight education institutions is of over 45,000 square metres,” the EU Delegation in Moldova said.
Also, besides the transformation of schools into modern and comfortable spaces, the project contributed to the significant cutting in the energy consumption (59%) and of the CO2 emissions (57%).
Another direction of development seen within the project was the development of the water and sewerage supply infrastructure in ten settlements from six districts of Moldova. The initiative contributed to the improvement of the quality of lives of more than 100,000 people.
“The investments in the modernization of the water and sewerage networks amounted to 21 million euros – money which ensured the renovation of 200 km of water supply network and the construction of 30 km of sewerage network. The works included also the renovation of the water supply system, setting of water reservoirs, improvement of the drinking water’s quality and modernization of the sewerage network,” the EU Delegation in Chisinau noted.
The project was financed by the European Union, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ Moldova), in partnership with the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry of Moldova. EU provided 36.5 million euros for this joint effort, thus consolidating the cooperation relations and developing efficient partnerships, in order to bring positive changes to communities from all over the country. As much as 33 million euros of this sum was used for the construction works themselves and 3.5 million euros covered the elaboration of the technical project documentation. The project was implemented during 2017-2024. (Moldpres)
