The European Commission (EC) has offered EUR 65.9 million to the Central Transportation Hub (CPK) company for the construction of a high-speed railway line connecting Warsaw and Lodz in central Poland where the massive air, road and rail hub is to be built.
“The EC has granted the Central Transportation Hub (CPK) company around PLN 290 million (EUR 65.9 million) from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU’s instrument for strategic investment in transport infrastructure,” the CPK wrote in a press release. “The 140-km long high-speed railway line is planned to reduce by around 50% the travel time between the capital of Poland and Lodz, with the CPK airport to be included in the railway network.”
The value of the entire construction project is estimated at around PLN 350 million (EUR 79.5 million), including PLN 290 million (EUR 65.9 million) or 85% in EU funds.
Work on the construction of the Central Transportation Hub (CPK), a massive air, road and rail infrastructure project initiated by the Law and Justice government, is planned to begin in mid-2023. It is expected to become fully operational until the end of 2027. In its first phase, it is expected to service 40 million passengers a year, but its capacity could eventually rise to 100 million.
