Yaroslav Demchenkov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, took part in the PowerPol-2023 conference held in Warsaw. Among the participants of the event were Anna Lukaszewska-Trzeciakowska, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Poland, Mateusz Berger, Secretary of State, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, as well as representatives of other relevant ministries and departments of Poland and energy companies.
In his speech, Yaroslav Demchenkov noted that Poland was one of the first countries to call on the EU to abandon russian energy resources and took significant steps in this direction on its own.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that it was necessary to finally deprive the aggressor state of its influence on European energy markets and stressed that Ukraine’s reconstruction and integration into the EU were two inseparable processes. Therefore, in developing the energy sector, Ukraine will focus not only on its own needs, but also on the needs of the EU.
“Ukraine has made significant progress in integrating its gas and electricity markets with the European ones. Our goal is to become a full-fledged part of the European internal market. This should be accompanied by the expansion of trade and competition in the markets,” said Yaroslav Demchenkov.
The Deputy Minister also drew the audience’s attention to the high potential of cooperation between Ukraine and Poland in the electricity and gas sectors.
“Our goal is to decentralize the Ukrainian energy system in the process of reconstruction. The development of electricity production by means of small distributed generation at the local level in Ukraine may become a promising area of cooperation between our countries. It also opens up prospects for the implementation of grid development projects. We are also interested in strengthening cooperation in nuclear energy,” Yaroslav Demchenkov emphasized, inviting Polish business representatives to become more actively involved in relevant projects in Ukraine.
The Deputy Minister of Energy also said that the Ministry of Energy was interested in studying the Polish experience of attracting EU funding and grants for the development of energy projects. An important factor in strengthening cooperation will be the implementation of infrastructure projects to increase the capacity of cross-border electricity trading.
