Lviv region finished the 2022-2023 sugar-refining season, which began in September 2022.
During the season, almost 1.1 million tons of sugar beets were processed, from which 158.5 thousand tons of sugar were produced or 19.5% more than the indicators of the previous season, the department of agri-industrial development of LRMA reported.
“Over the past 5 years, we observed a growing trend in sugar production in the region, which contributed to the increase of production areas under sugar beets in local farms. Last season, we had a significant increase in the production areas, and the weather contributed to the improvement of quality indicators of sugar beets. It was as a result of the combination of these two factors that we saw a significant increase in sugar production in the region,” said Tetyana Hetman, the director of the Lviv Regional Military Administration agri-industrial development department.
During the last 5 years, the production of sugar beets increased by 38% in Lviv region, and the production of sugar increased by 46.6%. The main part of Lviv sugar is sold in the domestic market, approximately 20% of the total production is exported, mainly to EU.
According to the operational monitoring of the region’s economy, in 2023 it is planned to sow 13.7 thousand hectares of sugar beets. (Ukrsugar/Business World Magazine)
