The budget of Georgia’s Black Sea region of Adjara has tripled over the past 10 years and crossed the GEL 50-billion ($18.08 billion) threshold, Tornike Rizhvadze, the head of the regional government, revealed on November 29.
A number of “important projects and programmes” will be planned for the residents of the region with the use of the budget, Rizhvadze said at the government meeting.
The official also highlighted a “very large increase” in both education infrastructure and programmes.
He said “no school” in the region would be left without rehabilitation over the next three months, with plans also involving construction of new schools.
More than GEL 150 million ($54.34 million) will be spent on sports infrastructure in 2023 in a bid to host international sports events in the region, Rizhvadze also revealed, adding the initiative would follow the opening of a FIFA-standard football stadium in the Shuakhevi municipality on November 28.
