The European Investment Bank (EIB) will offer the Republic of Moldova a grant of 15 million euros for energy efficiency projects of public buildings. The agreement was signed on September 13 by Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Head of the European Union Delegation to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks and Head of the EIB Office in the country Alberto Carlei, who held a press conference after signing the document.
According to Andrei Spinu, the grant will be used for energy efficiency projects of public institutions, especially schools, kindergartens and hospitals in the localities of the country.
“This grant comes to complete the aid offered by the European Union to our country, to cope with the energy crisis conditions. European support will help us to work firmly for the energy security of the country,” the official said.
In this context, Spinu named several profile hospitals in Chisinau and Balti.
“This is another initiative of Team Europe, a very important agreement that will support the Republic of Moldova in environmental diplomacy and energy neutrality. We will support this Government which has made energy efficiency a priority and complies, especially as a candidate country for the EU, with European environmental values,” Janis Mazeiks said.
Alberto Carlei welcomed that the projects initiated from the above-mentioned grant would cover the whole country and would help reduce gas emissions, invoice amounts, install modern lighting systems and photovoltaic panels.
The situation on the international energy market also affects the Republic of Moldova. According to the analysis carried out by the United Nations Development Program, 60% of the country’s population is already in energy poverty, spending more than 10% of the budget for paying for energy.
