Some 1,400 monkeypox vaccine doses have been delivered to Lithuania, the Health Ministry said on August 24.
“The National Public Health Centre will identify people to be vaccinated and refer them for vaccination,” Deputy Health Minister Ausra Bilotiene Motiejuniene told reporters, adding that over 17,000 infection cases had been recorded worldwide since May.
People will be vaccinated against monkeypox no earlier than four days and no later than 14 days after contact with infected persons, she said.
Monkeypox vaccines will be given to healthcare workers who, for example, have not used safety precautions properly when consulting or examining people, the deputy minister has said. Both medical and laboratory professionals will be eligible for vaccination, as well as people who have come into contact with them.
Eligible people will receive two vaccine doses 28 days apart.
