Passengers will be able to pay seasonal ticket fares for Tbilisi public transport using their bankcards starting from September 1, Mayor Kakha Kaladze has announced.
Kaladze said city authorities had reached agreement with two major banks in the country, TBC Bank and Bank of Georgia, enabling their customers to integrate their travel passes into the bankcards.
“We had promised the public that it would be possible to link seasonal tickets to payment bankcards. We originally said this would be completed in May, however, the work with the banks took some time, and as of today, everything had been agreed with both Bank of Georgia and TBC Bank. It is now possible to implement this project from September 1”, Kaladze said.
Tbilisi city authorities introduced a new seasonal ticket system covering different modes of transport in the city earlier this year, however commuters were offered bespoke cards for the purpose, with bankcards only valid for one-time fare payments. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
