In July, the number of passengers serviced at Riga International Airport increased by nearly half when compared to June, according to available data on the airport’s operations in the first seven months of 2021.
The airport serviced 297.2 thousand passengers, up by 140,000 MoM. This means the number of passengers serviced in July reached 36% of what was observed in 2019.
Generally in seven months of 2021 Riga International Airport serviced nearly 703,000 passengers. When compared to before Covid-19 pandemic, their numbers are still 84% lower.
The number of flights serviced at Riga International Airport increased as well – 4,319 flights, up by 1,203 MoM.
In seven months of 2021, the airport saw arrivals and departures of 15.7 aircraft. The number of flights has reduced by 68% when compared to 2019. 9,784 of them were passenger flights (-79% when compared to 2019), 1,504 were freight flights (+48%) and 4,474 were business, military, technical or other flights (+110%).
In July, Riga International Airport serviced 1,924 tons of freight. In seven months of 2021, on the other hand, the airport serviced 14.3 thousand tons of freights, up by 20%.
The influx of transit passengers is also on the rise at Riga International Airport – the percentage of travelers who picked Riga as a point of transit to other destinations was 26% in July. So far Riga International Airport has serviced a total of 162.5 thousand transit passengers, accounting for 23% of all passengers.
60.5% of passengers were carried by airBaltic, 18.2% by Ryanair and 6% by WizzAir.
Currently there are 12 airlines offering passenger-carrying services at Riga airport.
With airlines expanding operations at Riga airport, the network of destinations expands further – it is possible to travel to 86 destinations from Riga.
The number of flights serviced at Riga airport also continued increasing in July – 4,319 flights were serviced, up by 1,203 flights MoM.
In seven months, 15.7 thousand aircraft arrived at and departed from Riga airport. The number of flights has declined by 68% compared to 2019.
