“Some companies put a 300-400% price tag on drugs in Georgia, which is unacceptable”, said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
“We, the Georgian government, should make the right decision shortly as it affects the well-being of our population. Nothing like this is happening in any country”, said Garibashvili.
Irakli Garibashvili also noted that the Georgian National Competition Agency was working on the issue and would present an interim monitoring report in the coming days.
Responding to the issue, Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia said mechanisms that could lead to improved access to drugs were regulated at the legislative level in many countries.
Gabunia also noted that the World Health Organisation had already started working on the issue with the Georgian Health Committee. She said this was an ongoing process, which would need some time to finally determine what action the country would take in this regard. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
