In June, actual unemployment rate comprised 7.8%, down by 0.1% MoM.
The unemployment rate for females increased by 0.1%, to 7.4 % in June, but for males it remained unchanged at 8.3%. Unemployment rate registered by the State Employment Agency (SEA) accounted for 7.4%, down by 0.2%. Unemployment rate decrease may be observed when comparing the data to the June of the previous year – of 0.8% in actual unemployment rate and 1.2% in registered unemployment rate, according to data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS) conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB).
In June, there were 72.6 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (33.5 thousand females and 39.1 thousand males). The total number of unemployed persons has not changed since May, but the number of unemployed females has increased by 0.1 thousand, while the number of unemployed males has decreased by 0.2 thousand.
Compared to the corresponding period of last year, when three months have already passed since the first emergency situation had been declared in Latvia, the number of unemployed persons has decreased by 11.3 thousand.
Since the second declaration of the emergency situation in November 2020 when a number of on-site services were restricted, the number of unemployed persons has decreased by 3 thousand. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
