Latvijas Gaisa Satiksme (LGS) and telecommunications company Latvijas Mobilais telefons (LMT) have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for research and development projects, as confirmed by both companies.
As part of this memorandum, LGS and LMT will work on various solutions for the development of safe and convenient UAV traffic together.
The memorandum provides for the development of an experimental concept for secure UAV traffic data transmission between different systems.
LGS has full information of the structure of Latvia’s air traffic space and related elements. This includes information regarding areas in which UAVs are not permitted to fly. All data available to LGS are transmitted using LGS own centralized digital environment. However, because of the increasing numbers of UAV users in Latvia it is necessary to develop a more dynamic approach to data management and distribution outside LGS systems.
LGS and LMT plan to develop a concept for more convenient access to this data using M2M (machine-to-machine) technologies while also providing high quality of accessible data. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
