Uzbek Transport Minister Ilham Makhkamov has commented on the privatization of Uzbekistan Airways. He said that prior to the privatization, the government should work on increasing the attractiveness of the company for investors.
“Our main goal should be selling the airline at a good price. All the aircraft purchased in until today were brought using loans. With such a credit debt, with such a business strategy, the attractiveness of the airline is low,” the minister noted.
Makhkamov added: “We should avoid from selling it at such a low price. That doesn’t mean that we are not going to sell it. This also does not mean that the airline will always be under the tutelage of the state. Some tasks need to be realized step by step. By implementing them, of course, in the end, we will still sell them to the private sector, to good partners”. (Uzreport/Business World Magazine)
