Compared to 2019, price index of agricultural output decreased by 2% in 2020, which was mainly due to a 4.1% drop in prices of livestock products. Price index of crop products has decreased by 0.6%.
The average purchase price of meat has decreased by 4.3%. In 2020, the largest decrease in the purchase price was for pork (by 8.1%) and beef and veal (by 2.7%); the prices for this type of meat were 1,477.73 EUR/ton and 1,859.63 EUR/ton, respectively, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
The increase in the average purchase price was observed for mutton (by 4.3%), reaching 3,441.33 EUR/ton. The price increase for poultry was only 0.2 %, and last year it was 1,875.54 EUR/ton.
The average purchase price of milk decreased by 4.3%, from 293.50 EUR/ton in 2019 to 280.93 EUR/ton.
Compared to the previous year, the average purchase price of eggs increased by 3.5%, from EUR 6.89 to EUR 7.13 per 100 eggs.
The average purchase price of grain increased by 3.4 %, from 158.24 EUR/ton in 2019 to 163.59 EUR/ton in 2020. The largest price increase was for wheat (by 3.7%), which accounted for 83% of the total grain purchase. In turn, the price of rye decreased by 4.9 %, from 122.70 EUR/ton to 116.73 EUR/ton.
In the crop sector, the largest price decrease, compared to the previous year, was observed for potatoes – by 31.04 EUR/ton and vegetables – by 97.36 EUR/ton or by 18.5% and 12.4%, respectively. The average purchase price of rape seeds has decreased by 1.4%. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
