Families with children are among social groups that have been impacted by Covid-19 the most. This is why they have been picked to become the first to receive the single-time unconditional benefit. However, Latvia’s government has no intention of stopping there – support is promised to other groups of society, said Latvia’s Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins.
He reminded that the government and Crisis Management Council had composed a special Covid-19 Strategic Management Group. This body will help the government to identify other groups of society that are in dire need of state support.
“The objective is helping the government identify groups of residents in need of assistance and help reduce inequality in the country through support. It sounds simple, but we have a number of people working on solutions. Once a solution has been developed, we will present it to the government,” promises Karins.
When asked to clarify if this meant other residents, such as pensioners, could expect support similar to the one provided to families with children, the head of the government said experts would consider possible forms of support.
“My goal is identifying groups of residents who suffer from Covid-19 but who are skipped by plans for support,” said the prime minister. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
