Uzbekistan processes 70-80 thousand tons of soybean annually. However, the country needs 1.5 million tons of the oilseed to load its processing capacities, declared the vice-chairman of the Uzyogmoysanoat Association, Ahror Abdurahimov.
He said that the soybean-processing stagnated in Uzbekistan, as there were problems with soybean purchasing due to high logistical costs.
“If we get attractive offers for soybean supply to our plants, we will consider and discuss them. We import 30 thousand tons of soybean at most annually. However, we need 1.5 million tons to load our capacities”, he said.
Abdurahimov added that Uzbekistan was building several lines for soybean protein production. Each plant needs additional 20-30 thousand tons of soybean per year to load their capacities. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
