On December 20 the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) put into circulation new UAH 50 banknotes, as well as UAH 5 coins that would gradually replace the relevant paper banknotes, the press service of the central bank wrote on its official Facebook page.
“First of all, the National Bank intends to put into circulation 5 million new 50 hryvnia banknotes and 5 million 5 hryvnia coins. The first batch of these monetary units has been already distributed between the NBU structural units in the regions. Banks from now on will receive the updated banknotes from the National Bank and issue them to their clients,” reads the statement.
The central bank noted that the banknotes of UAH 5 and UAH 50 denomination of the previous years of issue would be gradually withdrawn from circulation and replaced by coins and new banknotes. Over time, the number of renewed banknotes and coins will be increased depending on the needs of the economy. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
