Inflation in Ukraine in May amounted to 9.6% YoY, accelerating from 8.8% in annual terms a month earlier, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reports.
May prices compared against the previous month were up by 0.7% after rising in April by 1% against March. Compared with December 2018, consumer prices in May increased by 4.2%.
The agency said the inflation rate in annual terms accelerated for the second month in a row, after rising in April to 8.8%, when the largest price increase was recorded for vegetables (47%).
In May, the highest price increase was also recorded for vegetables (53%), railway passenger transport (28.2%), road passenger transport (24.4%), sewerage services (23%), and bread (20.2%).
Price reduction was recorded for eggs (30.1%), fruit (12.3%), sugar (2%), and clothes (0.2%).
The State Statistics Service recalled that the data are given excluding the occupied Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as the occupied territories in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
