Placing floating solar panels in dams of hydroelectric plants Lithuanian Business Support Agency sees potential in the innovation and has granted 235,000 euros for the project at the Kruonis hydroelectric plant.
The first stage of the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021. State-owned enterprise Lietuvos Energijos Gamyba will be developing the project with scientists from Kaunas University of Technology.
The firm and scientists seek to install the experimental 60-kilowatt (kW) plant in the upper reservoir of the Kruonis plant. They hope the full capacity would reach 200-250 MW, bringing energy enough for 120,000 households and will triple currently installed solar power capacity in Lithuania. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
