Provisional costs of construction of the new “A” wing of Pauls Stradins Criminal University Hospital have grown by one-third or by EUR 30.684 million, as reported by the hospital’s board member Janis Komisars during a meeting of Saeima’s Public Expenditure and Audit Committee.
According to him, initial costs of the project were estimated around EUR 91.069 million. However, since then costs have grown by EUR 30.684 million. Because of that, additional funding will be needed to finish the project.
As reported by Healthcare Ministry’s representative Agnese Tomsone, the institution has gone through the reasons provided for the request for additional funding and has concluded that the need for additional funding is justified. Because of that, the ministry has submitted a request to Finance Ministry to provide the necessary funding.
According to representatives from Finance Ministry and Central Finance and Contracting Agency, there is not enough information to assess the reasons for the request. Still, Finance Ministry will provide a statement on this before November 2.
The construction project for the hospital’s “A” wing was submitted for approval to the European Commission on September 30. If a decision to reject or approve it is not made within three months, it will be considered approved by default. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
