During an extraordinary meeting, members of Ogre County Council supported creation of an egg and egg product plant in Madliena Parish, which had been picked by a Ukrainian investor as a location for the plant.
The municipality has received an application from SIA Gallusman board chairman Arnis Veinbergs with information regarding the plans of Ukrainian OvoStar Union to build a modern egg and egg product plant in Ogre County. The municipality has been asked to support and cooperate with the construction of this plant, including the construction of the necessary power network.
It was previously reported that the company looked at other options for the plant’s possible location, including Tukums. In addition, the county council plans to auction off two pieces of land the company views as possible locations for the egg and egg product plant.
As explained by Ogre County municipality, Veinbergs has informed the municipality that Gallusman and the owner of the piece of land had already signed an agreement of intention regarding the purchase of land.
It is planned to build the plant in Madliena Parish. The total area intended for construction work is 140,000 square meters. Construction costs are planned at EUR 15 million (not taking into account procurement of equipment and construction of bio-mass CHP plant).
Construction is planned to be performed in two stages. The first stage will include construction of the plant with 3 million hens, whereas the second stage includes expansion of production and increase of hens to 6 million.
It is also planned to gradually increase the number of employees to 200.
The first stage of construction is planned to be realized within two years.
Veinbergs estimates that the volume of PIT paid for people employed by the plant may reach EUR 700,000. Because most employees are planned to be residents of Ogre, it will help increase the municipality’s budget revenue. Municipality’s budget will also benefit from real estate tax.
The businessman promises that development of the plant’s plans will focus on prevention or reduction of possible environmental impact. For example, to prevent the possible smell from bird enclosures, it is planned to use dry manure collection technology, which is already employed in many bird farms in Europe. This prevents excrements from piling up.
It is also planned to build a bio-gas CHP plant, which will help resolve a number of problems associated with manure storage and recycling. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
