In January-July the port of Ventspils handled 11.58 million tons of cargo, down by 15% YoY, the port authority reported.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 10%, to 6.558 million tons, dry bulk cargo – by 29%, to 3.451 million tons, while general cargo went up by 9%, to 1.571 million tons.
The port’s container throughput totaled 2,108 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 8%, to 129,749. The number of calls was flat YoY at 897 units.
Ventspils port is located near the Venta River. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers.
