Polish-based PKP Intercity plans to launch a direct railway service between Przemysl and Berlin in 2018 in view of growing traffic on the eastern border of Poland and the migration of Ukrainian citizens to EU countries.
“Ukrainian routes have turned out to be a hit. Trains from Przemysl to Lviv and Kyiv transport more and more passengers each year. In the first five months, we had as many passengers as last year, when the number of travelers doubled. Obviously, we will see another 2-fold increase in the number of passengers from the east,” President of the Board of PKP Intercity Marek Chraniuk was quoted as saying by Ukraine’s Center for Transport Strategies (CTS).
To this end, a train of intermediate cars will be launched from Przemysl through Wroclaw and Zielona Gora to the German capital before the end of the year. According to Chraniuk, the train is to be called Metropol. Its carriages will be attached in Wroclaw to a train heading for Berlin. (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
