Sugar production in Ukraine as of December 5 amounted to 1.73 million tons, according to the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers.
“At present some 1.73 million tons of sugar has been produced and 12.11 million tons of sugar beets has been processed. According to the association, the sugar season will end by the new year,” head of the analytical department of the association Ruslan Butylo said.
According to Ukrtsukor, 23 sugar factories have completed the production season.
“The sugar beet harvesting campaign is over, 500,000 tons of sweet roots remain to be processed,” the association noted.
As reported, the new season of sugar production in Ukraine began on August 30.
According to the association’s forecasts, in the current marketing year sugar production will amount to approximately 1.9 million tons, exports could amount to about 500,000 tons.
Sugar production in 2016-2017 marketing year was 2 million tons.
The areas under sugar beets in 2017 amounted to 318,000 hectares. (Interfax-Ukraine/Business World Magazine)
