Tajikistan and Germany signed agreements on financial cooperation for the period of 2016-2017 and on technical cooperation for the period of 2016-2017.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmatullozoda and German Ambassador to Tajikistan Neithart Hofer-Wissing.
These documents were signed in accordance with the agreements reached during the Intergovernmental Tajik-German negotiations held in Berlin in 2016.
The government of Germany will provide Tajikistan with new funds in the amount of 33.5 million euros within the framework of bilateral technical and financial cooperation for 2016-2017, according to the press service of the ministry.
These funds will be used to implement following social projects: “Agricultural value chains in Tajikistan”, “Combating tuberculosis. 4-th phase”, “Funds of municipal services to promote primary education and restoration of communal infrastructure. 4-th phase”, “Promoting independently certain family planning and maternal and child health in Tajikistan”, “Improving food security for mothers and babies in rural areas of Tajikistan” and “Promoting the development of the local economy in selected high-mountain areas.”
Additional funds will be directed to the project of “Rehabilitation of the Ak-Su HPP” in the Murghab district.
For 25 years Germany remains Tajikistan’s key partner in the field of sustainable development. Tajikistan and Germany cooperate in the fields of economy, science and education, the fight against terrorism and extremism, as well as in the banking sector, etc.
To date, in the framework of technical and financial cooperation between the two countries, more than $100 million has been allocated for development projects in Tajikistan, which indicates the great role of Germany in this field.
The volume of trade between the two countries in 2016 amounted to only $40 million, more than 95% of which was the import of German goods to Tajikistan. (AzerNews/Business World Magazine)
