Output of passenger cars in May grew by 40% YoY, to 661 vehicles, according to the Ukrautoprom Association’s preliminary data.
For the first time since the beginning of the year, cars were produced not only by CrJSC Eurocar, but also by Zaporizhia-based ZAZ plant.
In particular, ZAZ produced 94 passenger cars (in May last year the plant did not produce a single vehicle), Eurocar increased output by 20% YoY, to 568 units. In addition, ZAZ in May manufactured 10 commercial vehicles and three buses.
Taking into account these indicators, the production of cars in Ukraine in January-May increased by 82.7% YoY, to 2,353 vehicles. In particular, Eurocar boosted output by 76%, to 2,259 vehicles, while ZAZ increased its output from 4 vehicles to 94 vehicles.
As a result of this period, in total, ZAZ produced 267 vehicles against four passenger cars in the same period of last year.
At the same time, the Bogdan Corporation’s car production facilities have been idle.
Ukrautoprom said that the highest dynamics of growth for the first five months were again demonstrated by bus producers: 270 units were released against 48 units for the same period of 2016.
In particular, 131 buses were produced by Cherkasy bus plant (including 31 in May), 35 buses by Chasiv Yar bus plant (3 in April), 57 units by Etalon Corporation’s Chernihiv-based automobile plant (13 units), 10 buses by ZAZ, 37 buses by Bogdan (not a single one in May). During the same period of 2016, 10 buses were produced by Bogdan and 39 by the Cherkasy bus plant.
At the same time, 50 buses were manufactured in May against 37 in May 2016 and 51 in April.
The association said that truck output statistics did not include figures from public joint-stock company AutoKrAZ.
The output of commercial vehicles in January-May was 163, which were manufactured by ZAZ. Some 332 trucks and commercial vehicles were produced in the same period last year, with 330 vehicles being AutoKrAZ vehicles. (Interfax-Ukraine/Business World Magazine)
