A groundbreaking ceremony for construction of a new cargo terminal at Dushanbe International Airport (DIA) took place on March 31.
The terminal that is being constructed under financial support of Japan’s government is expected to be finished in the summer next year.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by First Deputy Minister of Transport Suhrob Mirzoyev, Japan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Hajime Kitaoka and Deputy Director of Dushanbe International Airport Asliddin Melikov.
The project will be implemented in two stages.
The first stage will be funded by $17.5 million allotted by Japan in no-strings aid through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
According to Suhrob Mirzoyev, Japan’s Nippon Construction will be engaged in implementation of the first stage of the project.
“We are currently conducting negotiations with other donors on financing the second stage of the project,” the deputy transport minister said.
An international tender for selection of contractor for implementation of the second stage of the project is expected to be held in the second quarter of this year. (News.tj/Business World Magazine)
