Tajikistan has expressed gratitude to Uzbekistan for humanitarian aid sent to disaster-affected people.
According to the Uzbek MFA’s official website, the Uzbek Embassy in Dushanbe has received the letter of thanks from the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the government of Tajikistan for humanitarian aid sent by the Uzbek authorities to Tajikistan for disaster-affected people.
The government of Uzbekistan sent nearly 60 tons of humanitarian aid to Tajikistan on March 7. The assistance including food products, medicines, warm clothes, building materials, coal and other basic necessities has been distributed among residents of regions affected by snow-slides over the past two months.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan has provided coordination of works on formation, shipment and handover of humanitarian aid to the Tajik side.
More than five hundred snow-slides have reportedly occurred in Tajikistan over the past two months.
Mountains cover 93% of Tajikistan, and avalanches and mudslides kill dozens of people every year.
Tajikistan has appealed to diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to Tajikistan for help in mitigating effects of recent natural disasters. (News.tj/Business World Magazine)
