Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG (TAP) has selected Honeywell SRL of Italy for the engineering, procurement and installation of its SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) telecommunications and security systems, reads a message posted on the TAP website.
“The SCADA and security system will provide integrated, centralized and seamless monitoring and control along the entire 878-kilometer gas transportation system”, said the message. “All data will be transmitted back to the supervisory control center in the Pipeline Receiving Terminal (PRT) in southern Italy, overseeing the pipeline’s safe and sustainable operations”.
Ian Bradshaw, managing director at TAP, said that with this appointment, TAP had completed the award of all major strategic contracts for pipeline construction.
The SCADA telecommunications and security system is a key piece of equipment, which will ensure safe and effective pipeline operations, added Bradshaw.
TAP is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is one of the priority energy projects for the EU.
TAP project envisages transportation of gas from the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas and condensate field to the EU countries.
The pipeline will be connected to the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border, run through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy’s south. (Trend/Business World Magazine)
