The representatives of the US government confirmed their unchanged interest to continue energy cooperation with Ukraine. At the meeting, the parties discussed further steps for reforming Ukraine’s energy sector and maintaining conditions for secure gas transit to Europe via Ukraine.
Andriy Kobolyev, CEO of Naftogaz, and Oleg Prokhorenko, CEO of Ukrgazvydobuvannya, have met with Amos Hochstein, the Special Envoy and Energy Coordinator of the US Department of State, Nicole Gibson, Deputy Director in the Energy Bureau, Marie Yovanovitch, the US Ambassador to Ukraine, as well as Anya Brunson, Energy and ESTH Unit Chief, at the company’s headquarters.
The parties discussed a wide range of energy cooperation issues, including steps towards Ukraine’s gas independence.
Andriy Kobolyev expressed his gratitude to the US government for the facilitation of launching reverse gas supplies to Ukraine in 2014 and for its support in organizing gas purchase funding for Ukraine. This cooperation enables Naftogaz to ensure stable gas supplies to Ukrainian consumers and secure gas transmission to the EU. In addition, Naftogaz chairman thanked the American side for its active participation in reforming Ukrgazvydobuvannya, in particular, in development of the strategy for increasing gas production by 2020. Kobolyev also emphasized the important role of the US partners in the implementation of the corporate governance reform at Naftogaz enterprises. (Energyland/Business World Magazine)
