Russia may start supplying wheat to Venezuela before the end of 2016, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said in a report.
“Considering Venezuela’s strong interest in imports of Russian wheat, in case the authorized agencies of the two countries effectively agree and sign the relevant protocol, exports of Russian wheat to the Venezuelan market may begin as early as in the end of 2016”, the regulator said.
Rosselkhoznadzor has already prepared and sent a draft protocol to the Venezuelan side. The document concerns safety measures to ensure quality and phytosanitary requirements of grain supplies.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor, Venezuela imports almost 100% of the required wheat to meet its needs. The US and Canada are traditional suppliers of wheat to Venezuela. The two countries supply up to 120,000 tons of wheat to Venezuela every month. (TASS/Business World Magazine)
