The Russian union of milling and groats enterprises estimates the deficit of 3-grade wheat in the current year at the level of 12.6 million tons, the President of the Union Arkady Gurevich said.
According to him, in the current year the forecasts for grain production in the country are quite significant, but large harvest usually demonstrates low-quality grains.
In particular, during several recent years the share of 3-grade wheat in the general harvest of Russian wheat continued decreasing: in 2012 the index totaled 48.2%, in 2013 – 38.5%, in 2014 – 34.2%, and in 2015 – 33.2%. According to preliminary data as of September 1, in the current year the figure totals 18% only.
Therefore, the market participants will replace 3-grade wheat with wheat of lower grades. The government worked out the State Standard project, which allowed using 5-grade wheat for milling purposes in terms of no-diseases and meeting all other requirements for the milling industry, Gurevich said.
