During the planting campaign in 2016, Kazakhstan increased the planted areas under wheat by 5.9% YoY, oilseeds – by 1.5%, pulses – 1.9 times, sugar beet – by 37.2%, the Committee on statistics at the Ministry of National Economy of Kazakhstan reported.
At the same time, in the current year the planted area under corn reduced by 3.4%, under rice – by 3.9%.
The general planted areas under agricultural crops in 2016 in Kazakhstan totaled 21.66 million ha, up by 455.1 thousand ha (or 2.1%) YoY. In particular, agrarians planted grains throughout 15.4 million ha (71.1% of the general areas), forage crops – 3.671 million ha (16.9%), and oilseeds – 2.037 million ha (9.4%).
