Kazakhstan has almost completed realization of the project to expand the sea port of Aktau in the northern direction, which will increase the carrying capacity from 16.5 million tons to 19.5 million tons, the press-service of the port declared.
The project consists of three stages: construction of protective hydraulic engineering structures, dredging and construction of dry bulk terminals.
According to the announcement, there is a permanent ferry line between the ports of Aktau and Baku. In particular, railway ferries transport grains and mineral fertilizers in 54 rail cars and 35 heavy trucks. The monthly carrying capacity of the ferry line totals nearly 1 thousand units of heavy vehicles.
According to the President of JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Askar Mamin, the Caspian countries plan to increase the port capacities in the region 1.5 times by 2020 – from 103 million tons to 150.6 million tons. The share of the Aktau seaport will rise from 26% to 34% in the general cargo turnover of Caspian countries, he said. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
