Ukraine’s program to stop importing gas envisages the increase in electricity generation, thanks to completion of two reactors of Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant (NPP) and construction of hydroelectric power plants (HPP), Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk said.
“Agreements to complete two reactors of Khmelnitsky NPP have been reached. In addition, last week I visited the United States and found the money to build two hydroelectric power plants”, he said.
He said that another direction is modernization of power lines.
Energoatom is the operator of all four Ukraine-based operating nuclear power plants, which have 15 VVER reactors with an overall generating capacity of 13.835 gigawatts. (Interfax/Business World Magazine)
