The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have launched the Ukraine Energy Equipment Installation Facility (UEIF), a nationwide platform that will help finance and coordinate the final stages of project implementation – engineering assessments, site preparation, equipment installation, grid connection, commissioning and quality control. The decision to launch the facility was announced on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The project will be implemented over a 5-year period.
“Restoring our energy system requires speed, scale and precision,” said First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal. “The Ukraine Energy Installation Facility is a practical tool that will help transform international assistance into effective energy infrastructure. Together with UNDP and international partners, we are accelerating project implementation, strengthening technical capacity, and ensuring that critical energy facilities are operational for the benefit of people and communities across Ukraine.”
The support mechanism will be implemented in collaboration with state and local governments, utility operators, technical experts, and the private sector.
“International partners have helped provide Ukraine with critical equipment. But equipment alone cannot power a hospital, a school, a water system, or a business. It needs to be installed and commissioned quickly and on a large scale. The Ukraine Energy Installation Facility bridges the gap between delivering equipment and restoring power. Relying on UNDP’s ability to implement projects at all stages, from project preparation and engineering design to installation, commissioning and transparent reporting, the Mechanism will help provide more reliable electricity, heat and water supply for millions of Ukrainians.
