In the village of Makariv, Kyiv region, major repairs have been completed to a residential building damaged by the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. Residents have now received the keys to their homes – 50 families can return home.
Due to shelling and fire, one of the sections of the building was critically damaged. The damaged section was dismantled and rebuilt.
“Our main principle in housing restoration is to give people the opportunity to live in their own homes again. In Makariv, 50 families are returning home today. At the same time, we are not just rebuilding the destroyed, but making housing safer, more accessible, and more comfortable. That is why, along with the restoration of the house, a shelter was arranged and barrier-free access was provided. Each such completed object is a concrete result of the restoration that people feel,” said the Minister of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk.
A set of works was carried out as part of the restoration. In particular, emergency and damaged structures were dismantled, foundations, basements, external and internal walls, partitions were restored. The roof, facade and basement were also restored and insulated, window, balcony and door blocks were replaced.
The building’s stairwells, entrances and common areas were repaired, and the interior decoration of the apartments was completed.
The water supply, sewage, heating, gas supply and ventilation systems, electricity supply, lighting, grounding and lightning protection were completely restored.
Special attention was paid to safety and accessibility. The basement was equipped as a dual-purpose structure with the possibility of using it as a shelter. Barrier-free measures were also implemented and access to the building and shelter was ensured.
The pedestrian paths, lighting and landscaping have been restored in the adjacent territory.
Housing restoration is, first of all, about returning people to their homes. Each such facility means not only restored structures and utilities, but also the return of families to safety, stability and the opportunity to live in their own homes again. (Infrastructure Ministry)
