Latvia’s unemployment rate stood at 6.5% in April, exceeding the average levels recorded both in the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, according to data published on June 1 by the EU statistical office Eurostat.
Among EU member states, higher unemployment rates in April were recorded in Finland (10.6%), Spain (10.3%), Greece (9.5%), Sweden (8.6%), France (8.2%), Lithuania (7.1%), as well as Denmark and Luxembourg (both 7%). Estonia’s unemployment rate stood at 6.3%.
Meanwhile, the lowest unemployment rates in April were registered in Bulgaria (2.8%), Poland (3.0%), the Czech Republic (3.1%), and Cyprus (3.2%).
According to seasonally adjusted data, the average unemployment rate across the European Union remained unchanged at 6.0%, while the eurozone unemployment rate also remained stable at 6.3%.
Eurostat data show that 13.238 million people were unemployed across the EU in April, including 11.075 million unemployed persons within the eurozone. (BNN)
