In 2025, a record number of counterfeit dairy products were detected in Russian stores, according to Rospotrebnadzor. Almost 18% of products in this category turned out to be fake. For comparison: in 2022, this figure was about 15%, in 2023 – 12%, and in 2024 – 13%.
In the Rosselkhoznadzor noted that it is “technologically simple” to falsify dairy products, most often this is done by adding vegetable oils (including palm oil), beef fat, starch, soy, as well as undeclared components in the composition.
In some cases, instead of whole milk, dry or reconstituted milk is used. Water, chalk, soap, soda, lime, boric or salicylic acids, and even gypsum may also be added to it with the aim of
increasing shelf life (The Moscow Times).
