The Government is preparing for the heating season, restoring energy facilities damaged by russia and working on infrastructure reconstruction programmes. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal at a press conference on September 9.
According to him, one of the biggest challenges facing the state today is ensuring energy sustainability.
“We have successfully completed three heating seasons amid a full-scale war and are now preparing for the fourth. Restoration and repairs are ongoing 24/7,” said Denys Shmyhal and added that ongoing work with partners was also underway in this area, including the provision of the necessary equipment.
For this purpose, in particular, together with the Parliament, privileges have been introduced for the import of power equipment to Ukraine.
“Ukraine Energy Support Fund has accumulated EUR 560 million, our partners have financed the purchase of 170 MW of equipment, and we have reached the final stage of negotiations with ENTSO-E to increase electricity import limits to 2.2 GW,” the Prime Minister said.
In addition, work is underway to build the first and second levels of protection at power facilities, as well as to strengthen air defence and electronic warfare systems.
The Government is also working to develop the decentralisation of the power system.
“We have launched programmes for people, businesses and condominiums to install additional generation. These include soft loans and grants. Meanwhile, we are increasing the autonomy of critical infrastructure,” the Prime Minister stressed.
According to the Head of Government, the number of cogeneration units at heat supply companies is already 169, of which 83 have been put into operation. Another 290 units and more than 100 block-modular boiler houses will be provided by partners.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Government was increasing the autonomy of critical infrastructure. More than 80% of schools and 100% of hospitals are equipped with generators. A total of 16,500 powerful generators have been installed.
The Head of Government also said that gas production was growing. Thus, in 7 months of 2024, Naftogaz produced 8.6 billion cubic meters, up by 7% YoY. (Government portal)
