Moldova for the first time ever participated in the Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris 2024 international exhibition on February 12-14. The country was represented by 18 wineries brought together under the country wine brand “Wine of Moldova. A legend alive”. Over 4,000 exhibitors who shared the wine culture and products with more than 41,000 visitors from 137 countries participated in the event.
According to the Embassy of Moldova in France, the participation in Vinexpo Paris took place in the context in which “Wine of Moldova” marked one decade of revolutionizing of the national winemaking sector. Then the exports were re-oriented to the EU markets and the vine-makers continued to invest in the modernization of vineyards and the last-generation winemaking equipment.
On the last day of the event, Moldova hosted a masterclass led by a journalist and wine critic from the United Kingdom Robert Joseph.
“People fell in love with the “Wine of Moldova” and they shared this passion with the others. Nevertheless, it is not easy for one to make his/her voice heard. Hence, Moldova is just at the beginning of the road,” Robert Joseph said.
“What we experience today is an opportunity. In the next decade, we might not speak about a revolution, but about a transformation or reinventing, especially in the winemaking industry. Moldova is a country with a rich heritage and industrious people. Our achievements in the wine industry represent a testament of the political and international support, but what’s most important, of the dedication of our wine producers and of the resilience of or people. This is, I believe, the corner stone of our progress,” Moldova’s Ambassador to France Corina Calugaru said.
Director of the National Office of Vine and Wine (ONVV) Stefan Iamandi said that “after ten years since the creation of a country wine brand, the export of wines have tripled in terms of value to countries from all over the world”.
The participation of the native products in the Vinexpo Paris exhibition was possible due to the support of ONVV and of the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity Project of the U.S. Agency for International Development Moldova. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
