NNEGC Energoatom specialists have completed scheduled repairs at the last, 9th nuclear power unit of the Ukrainian NPP. All units located on the territory controlled by Ukraine are now operating at full capacity.
“The large-scale repair campaign at the nuclear power plants, which lasted several months, was completed before the onset of winter. This is extremely important as nuclear power generation meets more than 55% of the country’s electricity needs. This is the most stable and resilient generation, which enabled our electricity system to survive last winter. I am confident that it will do so again this heating season,” said German Galushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.
The minister paid tribute to the professional work of power engineers, especially nuclear power engineers, who worked ahead of schedule to make repairs and do everything necessary to keep the units running and supplying electricity to the grid until the end of the current cold season.
“In addition, Energoatom experts, together with our partners from Westinghouse, have done everything possible to ensure that the VVER 440 nuclear units, which previously used russian fuel, will operate this year on fuel produced at the company’s plant in Sweden. Not only have we completed the repairs on time, but we have also put an end to the russian monopoly in this segment of the nuclear fuel market,” added German Galushchenko.
Energoatom President Petro Kotin thanked the nuclear engineers for carrying out this repair campaign professionally and ahead of schedule.
“Energoatom specialists have once again demonstrated their high level of qualification by doing everything to ensure that the repair campaign is carried out as quickly as possible and that Ukrainians are provided with a stable supply of electricity. The task of Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko has been fulfilled: all 9 units are operating in the power system after high-quality repairs,” added Petro Kotin.
