Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko held an online meeting with Minister of Energy of Romania Sebastian Burduja.
German Galushchenko congratulated his Romanian counterpart on his appointment and expressed confidence in the continuation of fruitful cooperation between the energy ministries of the two countries and the strengthening of energy security in the region.
In particular, he stressed the Ukrainian side’s interest in implementing joint projects in the gas and electricity sectors.
“Ukraine has the largest gas storage facilities in Europe and offers its international partners to use its natural gas storage capacities on mutually beneficial terms. We can say that European traders have already started pumping their gas into our UGS facilities, with the current volume of about 600 million cubic metres,” the Minister said.
German Galushchenko underlined Ukraine’s interest in developing cooperation in the field of natural gas transportation through the Trans-Balkan gas corridor.
The parties also discussed the implementation of agreements on the restoration of an interstate overhead power line between the 750 kV Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP and the 400 kV Isaccea substation. This project is of great importance for increasing the capacity of cross-border grids, as well as increasing the reliability of electricity supply to consumers in the southern regions of Ukraine and removing restrictions on the output of renewable energy generation capacity in these areas.
The Head of the Ministry of Energy thanked Romania for its support to the Ukrainian energy sector and spoke about the needs of the energy sector, the necessary materials and equipment that will help Ukraine get through the next heating season in the face of possible terrorist attacks on the energy system.
