According to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, German Galushchenko, active work is already underway to prepare for the next heating season. All power engineers are working to restore what the enemy has damaged and destroyed. The relevant headquarters is working.
Repairs and restoration of both the main substations operated by Ukrenergo and the generating capacities of power plants are underway. Power engineers are now actively restoring the power system and the safety margin it had before the shelling.
Starting from October 10, 2022 and over the following 6 months, the terrorist state carried out 33 massive attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, with about 270 hits recorded.
As a result, 24 generation facilities (thermal power plants, combined heat and power plants, hydroelectric and pumped storage plants), about half of the transmission system substations and trunk power grids were affected.
On November 23, 2022, a massive shelling caused a blackout of the power system, and 13.5 million consumers were cut off from electricity.
As of the end of the autumn-winter period, the power system temporarily lost 44% of nuclear generation, 78% of TPP capacity, 66% of combined heat and power plants, 12% of hydroelectric power plants, 75% of wind generation and more than 20% of solar generation as a result of the destruction and occupation.
The World Bank estimates that the damage to Ukraine’s electricity, gas and heating infrastructure, as well as coal production, is around $11 billion. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
