In 2022, 3,394 construction permits were issued for residential and non-residential buildings, down by 17.6% YoY. The data were presented by the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).
In Chisinau, in 2022, 572 fewer permits were issued for the construction of residential buildings, which means a decrease of 33.8%. Regionally, the number of authorizations decreased in the northern and central regions of the country, as well as in Gagauzia. Insignificant increases were witnessed only in the southern region of the country, where four more building permits were issued last year.
According to the BNS, in 2022, the number of building permits issued for buildings in the urban environment decreased by 37.6%, while in the rural environment it increased by 11.2%.
Economic journalist Vlad Bercu said that the decrease in the number of construction permits was determined in particular by the economic crisis, the increase in the price of construction materials and the decrease in demand for apartments in the conditions of a high rate of inflation, which affected the incomes of the population.
“It is natural for the number of permits to decrease, as we are facing a crisis, and the population cares more about their savings or maintaining their businesses than developing new investment projects. At the same time, inflation is enormous and I think that fewer people are thinking about buying a property,” he said. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
