During an online meeting between Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko and Secretary of U.S. Department of Energy Jennifer Granholm, the parties paid special attention to cooperation in restoring the Ukrainian energy system after massive russian attacks, strengthening it and protecting it from military threats, as well as prospects for the development of renewable energy and the introduction of small modular reactor technologies.
German Galushchenko stressed that Ukraine was seeking to rebuild its energy system on the principles of decentralization, resilience to military challenges, as well as the development of green energy and its nuclear component as a key generation.
“Our vision is the gradual replacement of thermal generation capacities, which suffered the most from russian attacks, with modern carbon-free technologies. That is why Ukraine is interested in close cooperation with the United States on the introduction of small modular reactor technologies”, said German Galushchenko.
The parties noted the U.S. Administration’s Net-Zero World initiative as one of the tools to achieve these goals. Ukraine joined it at the COP26 Climate Summit. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
